Freelancing is a great way to not only make extra money on your extra time but it can also turn into a full-time freelance career. When you first decide you want to take on freelance projects you should start small. Don't jump into projects that are to big or take to much of your time. You will get burnt out really fast this way. Look for projects that you can complete in a fast and timely manner. You will not only have some cash but you will also gain a sense of accomplishment and discipline with completing projects. You need this because later when you start going for the big money projects that take a lot of time and effort you are going to need to have the discipline and drive to get the project completed on time.
Expect To Work More Hours
Don't be fooled by people who claim that they work 4 hours a day... This does not happen till you have a nice FAT bank account that you can live off while only working your 20 hour a week job. In the beginning there is a lot of work to do that does not necessarily involve the skill/service you are offering. Account, management, marketing are just a few things that will take a lot of time.
Keep New Clients Coming
Its always good to have a regular client base that sends you constant projects but don't fall into the trap that will always happen. You should always actively be looking for new clients. This assures you that when your regular clients have no work for you that there are other client projects you can be working on. The only really problem here is that it takes a lot of time and effort bringing new clients on-board but it is worth it. Try to spend a little time of each workday pursing new clients.
Quality Service
The best way for you to advertise your business is word of mouth. Having happy clients should be your number one priority. Happy clients come back for other projects and also tell their friend and partners about your services. You also need happy clients to give you recommendations. This being said make sure you give your clients 110% every time! Remember its your name at stake here not some company you work for!
