As a money making thing I've been considering the idea of mini sites, io.e. those small sites that concentrate on a specialized topic and contain just a few pages of info on that one topic and then placing adsense on them and leaving them. How much traffic do you think this type of site gets and how many would you need to run to make any decent money?

Are you talking about the one page site that is about a mile long trying to sell some book? I'm not a fan of them.

Ah no lol but I know the kind of site you mean. I was talking about informational sites on specific subjects that can be made with a bit of research on the chosen topic, uploaded and left requiring no updates. With some SEO and ppc ads on it.
You can do that, but don't expect to have many visitors. I believe it's better to have 1 or 2 big sites, where you put all your effort, rather than 15 small.
I have to agree with Artakserksis, just create 1 or 2 big sites. You will prob get more people on them
than you would on the 15 small ones.
You can make such a niche site, of course the traffic will be very limited but perfectly targeted at the same time.

On the other hand you'd have to make it unique and valuable enough to avoid being confused with MFA sites.
On quite the contrary, 15 small, highly targeted websites can be more profitable then 1 or 2 big websites. The CTR can be much higher.
Why not use those small sites to drive traffic to your big sites ?
But still you will always need to update your content, even on the smaller sites.
Well, I shall be excused while I express my total disregard to such sites. I HATE them with all my soul. They're useless and fake (I speak as a visitor, not a designer). I hate that over-optimized content for search engines and not FOR ME as a visitor, I hate those ads put in all places .. I hate the idea itself.

I build sites for people and then think about monetizing.
