I like the signature tip. Its a good way to help another community while helping yours. Just need to be careful not to spam someone's community with your domain. That's not cool.

I believe that the best way to have a succeeded site is to have much content before even bringing the first visitors, then start some link exchanges with others and finally buy some advertisements. If you have a forum, you can also buy some posts from a posting company, so you can begin with some quality posts.
Driving one time traffic is not going to be effective.
Hence, content is king and if you have good content, visitors will keep coming back.
