Today I needed to telnet to a server and found that Vista has this feature disabled. You must enable it if you want to use it.

To enable telnet
  • Open Control Panel
  • Open Programs
  • Open Program and Features
  • On the left click Turn Windows features on or off
  • Scroll down and click Telnet Client
  • Click ok
What does a telnet do? Is it sort of an FTP application?

Telnet is a program used to access (in most cases) unix servers. It gives you remote access to the command prompt.

I see. Now, I remember that I used to use that program before. I only used it a few times though so I forgot that I even used it.
