I find Craiglist to be a useful resource for finding freelancing jobs. Here is the latest news on Craiglist.

Criaglist has been sued by eBay for diluting thg latter's stake in Craiglist; eBay bought a 28 per cent stake in privately held Craiglist in 2004.

Craiglist has stated in her blog that the lawsuit is without merit.

I have never directly went onto Craigslist to look for jobs, but have responded to ads with a craigslist e-mail address. One in particular turned out to be a scam so I guess you have to be careful of anywhere you look for jobs on the Internet.
