As a new freelancer, I observed the following guidelines:

1. Fufiil ALL your clients requirements including deadlines. If no deadline is given, stipulate one, and remember to give yourself some buffer time for last minute changes or emergencies.

2. State payment terms clearly - amount and when it will be paid of course must be stipulated.

3. Ask for feedback after job completion.

4. Never work for free. Offer value for money services.
I agree with your guidelines but I don't do #3.

For most Clients I don't ask but when I do I don't try to get them to write a referral (unless they offer). I always ask if they are happy with the project but thats about it for the most part.

I ask for feedback so as to improve but not to solicit for referrals and recommendations. I always believe that even if clients do not say anything, that doesn't mean they are happy with your work.
