How long do most your projects last? I try not to let mine take more than 4 weeks. Seems that is enough time to get the job done and still not feel like the project is going to last forever.

I try to get small projects turned over in 5 days max. and large projects no more than a month.
I feel sometimes it is best to set deadlines, and charge a higher rate for any overtime taken, however it does depend on the reason for delay.

I agree. I have been in situations where you are waiting for the client to get back to you with information and they take longer than expected. You must have hard deadlines to keep the project running and on target.
