A few people have posted about software they use to track client accounts: free online calenders, databases, etc. Has anyone ever went for one those "full-package" small business deals, a la Microsoft Live Office? I've heard MLO is kind of a lousy deal but I like the IDEA of getting CRM, FTP, hosting and whatever in one place, if it's cheap. I've just never heard from those who have actually used it.
I like having the able to pick the best software from different vendors. Sometimes, it is a little more money but worth it for me. Plus, I don't like relying on one vendor IMO.
I think free softwares and individual utilities are the best for me - simple to use and cost nothing. As freelancers, one priority is to keep overheads and expenses low.

I agree but you also have to know when to stop being frugal and buy things that will help you run your business better.
Very very true, Andy. Sometimes in the process of economizing we tend to be penny-wise and pound foolish and unable to see the big picture.
But I always have this equation in mind:
Surplus = Income minus expenses; income cannot be increased in the short run so the only way to ensure a surplus is to tighten your belt
