Over the years I have found an easy way to find new clients without having to spend money on advertising... Forum posting. Posting quality information to help others seems to net more clients than you would expect. Here is an example.

I post at a lot of different forums. For my hosting service I try helping Programmers with problems they are having with their web host. Giving them help and information to help resolve their problems. Sometimes they stay at their current web host and sometimes they ask me for service.Smile I've also found that other people following the thread will also signup for service!

Hope this info helps!

Johnny
Please note that you can also get customers by visiting forums marketplace.
Most webmaster forums have a marketplace where you can find people looking for all kind of services.
You do not necessarily need to post on general threads to net customers.

You do make a good point. The best marketplace forum I've found is SitePoint. They do change to post in their forum but I have gotten pretty good responses from my ads.

I've also found that forums are a good place to buy advertising spaces. Forums seem to have pretty reasonable prices for their ads.
Nice idea, but is it going to work for freelance webdesigner and developers as well..

Hi c4cyber hello2 Welcome to our community!

Posting at a web designer or developer forum should work fine.

I would like to add that their market place forum is very affordable to post as well. I believe its only $10.00

Yes it is very affordable. It costs $5 to start a domain auction, $10 to sell a turnkey site, $20 to sell an established site and $20 to sell advertising and you can spend more on premium listings to get more exposure if you want.

I've made a few posts in the marketplace and have always got a good response.

In addition to forums, you should make sure your services are listed in directories where clients will look for freelance help. Some of these directories are free and get quite a bit of traffic.
Hey guys! Another great vofum you might want to consider participating in is http://www.v7n.com/

They have a cool marketplace as well. But don't spam in there as mods get mad at this Wink

How much does the average forum ad cost you?

Between $10.00 and $50.00 for most forums. Some high traffic forums can cost a few hundred dollars. It really depends on the about of traffic you want.
