Just had my first on these online freelance jobs cancelled. The client wanted assistance in programming DNN (DotNetNuke) modules, but ended up wanting someone to evaluate and install 3rd party modules. Sigh, still, I have to say that dealing with this online is much easier than in real life. Getting/giving refunds is much easier and quicker with the escrow system.

Anyways, any tips on how to avoid this situation in the future?

These siutations are tough to avoid sometimes, especial when the client isn't specific about their needs. If you can afford to be a bit picky look for clients that clearly know what they want and have clearly worked with freelancers before. These types of clients tend to become long-term partners.
