I just wanted to mention that I think it might be worthwhile to compile a listing of either web resources or posts from our own experience, sticky it to the top of this section in regards to legal issues/requirements.
Anyone who gets into freelancing must understand the legal implications that effect you in your country/state/region. Not only for doing business, but most importantly tax considerations. It is too easy to get involved in freelancing and not fully understand the legal implications for you.
