Hey everyone,

Just wanted to related a story of a client I just finished a job on. I am still amazed at how many people out there in the freelance world just don't get the customer service aspect of what we do.

My client came to me via scriptlance after eluding to some problems the previous programmer. The job was to write a bunch of stored procedures and other SQL scripts. I don't feel I did anything special on the customer service side of things, just my usual updates at the end of the day, and making myself available via MSN if there were questions we needed to discuss. The client seemed ecstatic about these things and raved about them to me mentioning others he's worked with where he received neither of these things. He was also blown away that I said he could ask me questions after the project ended.

These things just seem standard to me, but I guess with the explosion of freelancing out there, there just are too many people who don't know what they are doing, especially in terms of servicing the client. What are your experiences?
I think that every client that I've had already knows what to expect before our deal even get started.
You certainly did the right thing by providing constant updates to your clients, but bear in mind that client needs are different and diverse and some may not need such hand holding. But the bottomline is to ask client's queries promptly and accurately
