Is it possible for a non US resident to open a bank account with an American bank? Does anyone have any links of information on this?

From what I remember when I opened my account you needed a social security number.

Is there any branch of American bank in your country? You might be able to open the account with their branch. Why don't you check it out first.
I'm sure it is possible for a non-U.S. citizen to open a bank account here, but it is hard to do. First, you have to show that you're eligible to be here legally. Two, they want to see your passports and other personal info. Three, if you're from a certain country, this process is even tougher, although I heard that illegal peoples from Mexico, Central and South America can open U.S. bank accounts without any I.D. or SSN. Seems weird though, and American citizens can't do that. It maybe a lie but idk.
