Hey everyone,

I have a friend interested in freelancing for translation, specifically chinese to english, english to chinese. I didn't see too many of these types of jobs on scriptlance or anything like that. Do you know where these types of jobs are found? Any tips for starting to get into that? It's quite different than freelance web stuff for sure!
I've seen some of these jobs at digitalpoint but they are very rare. About one job is posted per week.

I suggest that you try posting there though. Who knows, maybe someone will PM your friend for the job.
I haven't seen any around. But, I know that he might be able to find some websites that are ready to tap into the Chinese userbase. Tell him to try and contact some site owners to see if they are interested.

I would suggest looking at local businesses that sell software. They from time to time outsource translation work.

A quick Google search seem to have some pretty good results.

http://www.freelancerchina.com (general freelance site, but as it's Chinese there might be some translation projects)
http://www.writerlance.com (not sure if they have translation projects as well)
Thanks for the links Varelse!
Somebody on this forum is actually looking for a quick Chinese to English translation. This might be of help to you. I will also PM you this information.

Thanks for the referral Leet, I forward this on, sounds like my friend would be perfect!
You may also want to advertise your translation services on your local newspapers if you live in a big city.
When I was in college, I was once contacted by the local court to provide translation for an immigrant who was arrested but did not speak English.
I was paid $50/hour for the job.
