Yahoo has put together a pretty good widget API. YUI is a collection of AJAX widgets. Adding the widgets to your code is pretty easy. I will say their site is a little hard to get around when searching for documentation but the widgets are pretty good so its worth it.

He has developed and extended library based on YUI. It is a collection of very rich widgets.
