I have a line. Some of the benefits include; cost, long distance calling, and you can "take" you number with you (you just need an internet connection).

Bad things about VoIP phones; If your internet goes down so does your phone. If you have a home alarm you really cant just plug it into your VoIP number.

Hope this helps

the only beniffits would be the price, other than that there are a long list of disadvantages like not having a phone durin a power owtage also the 911 service is different
I would not use it to replace a landline phone. If there is a power outage, your out of luck. Very dangerous.

Keep a landline, and use skype or something as VOIP.

I do agree with you on your point but it should also be said that in the event of a power outage the only landline phones that would work are the ones that draw power directly from the phone line. That type of phone is really old. If your phone plugs into a electrical outlet then it will not work if the power goes out.

That is not true.

Many phones nowadays have it so that it will still include basic functionality even with a power blackout. you just wont get all your extra features.

I agree, I should have been more detailed. I was talking about cordless electric phones. All of the ones I have had clearly state you need to keep batteries in them in case of power outage.

Sorry for the confusion. Smile
